During the summer of 2024, the Brawl Stars team ended June with a Brawl Talk that felt less like a normal reveal and more like a reunion. The July update arrived with Classic Brawl, Mega Boxes, two new Brawlers, three reworks, seven Hypercharges, a paint-based mode, and a mountain of skins. For veterans in 2026, that update still stands out as a high point of nostalgia and chaos. The community called it a time capsule, and Supercell made sure the capsule was full.

Classic Brawl and the Mega Box comeback 🎁
The headline event was Classic Brawl. It ran from July 12 to July 31 and did not replace Starr Drops. Instead, it used the old Star Tokens. Players earned them through first wins of the day and by playing special classic modes. Those modes came with a classic modifier: no Hypercharges, level 9 maximum, no Gadgets, and only the first Star Power. It was a deliberate throwback to 2019, and nostalgic players loved it.

Two classic modes led the charge. Mirror mode was a 3v3 match where everyone played the same Brawler. Drum Roll was a deathmatch where each kill gave a different Brawler. The event also included a Mega Box challenge. By unlocking Mega Boxes with twelve Star Tokens, players could earn the ten Mega Boxes required to claim the free Sovereign Rico hypercharged skin.

Mega Boxes could contain Brawlers, Bling, skins of any rarity, Coins, Power Points, and Gems. The event was limited, so it never replaced the modern reward system. That balance between old and new became a defining feature of the update.

Berry and Clancy join the roster 🍦
Berry was the first new Brawler. A thrower-style unicorn, Berry could also support allies. The basic attack was an ice cream bomb that dealt damage over time in a small area while healing allies it hit. The Super was a dash attack that left a trail of ice cream behind. Dark Horse Berry arrived as the first skin for the new fighter.

Clancy followed in the next season. The team insisted Clancy was not a lobster, but players were free to disagree. Clancy worked like Surge, scaling through three levels that changed both the normal attack and the Super. Stage 1 was a single shot with a small torrent for a Super. Stage 2 added two quick shots in a line vector and a larger Super area. Stage 3 added two diagonal line vectors, turning the normal attack into a three-hit area and making Clancy faster while using the Super. High Stakes Clancy released alongside the Brawler.

Reworks for Frank, Meg, and Chester 🔧
The July update also reworked three existing Brawlers. Frank became faster with his normal attacks as his HP dropped. Meg shot more projectiles while in her Mecha but lost some range. Chester had his four attack stages folded into his basic attack, and his new Star Power made his first attack stronger.

Seven new Hypercharges ⚡
Supercell added seven Hypercharges. They changed how several Brawlers approached fights.
| Brawler | Hypercharge effect |
|---|---|
| Barley | Throws three big brews that burn all bushes in the area |
| Frank | Super covers the surrounding area |
| Angelo | Super follows him |
| Piper | Super throws more bombs and knocks enemies hit if she lands on them |
| EMZ | Super pushes Brawlers away and shoots a targeted spray after |
| Rico | Super projectiles bounce further |
| Gale | Wider Super that fires twice |
Balance changes before the update ⚖️
The CLB-Brawl Stars X account shared a sneak peek at balance changes, and they went live days before the July update. The list included nerfs to Draco and Kit, plus adjustments across the roster. Kit remained a nightmare, but at least the Power Hungry Star Power was reduced to 150% power gain.

Paint Brawl and a flood of skins 🎨
After the July update, Paint Brawl arrived as a new event. Its mechanics were similar to Brawl Ball, but players kicked a ball made of paint. The map painted itself in the kicker team color, and the team with the higher percentage of painted map when the timer ended won.

The Classic Brawl event also delivered free skins inside Mega Boxes: Stellar Shelly, Boomer Dynamike, Deputy Brock, Sheriff Shelly, Rouge Rico, Sovereign Rico, Sovereign Bling Rico, and Sovereign Gem Rico. Two remodeled skins arrived with color variations: Viking Bull and Norse Raider Bull, plus Caveman Frank and Prehistoric Frank.

A new skin season called Gods vs. Monsters began on July 4. It included Meduza EMZ, Sapphire Meduza EMZ and Ruby Meduza EMZ as Brawl Pass Plus color variations, Minotaur Bull, Poseidon R-T, Dionysus Angelo, Harpy Melodie as a Ranked skin, and Athena Piper.

The Paint Brawl season added four more skins: Aquamarine Sprout as a Ranked skin, Tentacle Bonnie, Cuttlefish Jacky, and Shell Blaster Gale. The Summer of Pirates collection also returned with Seadog Ruffs, Buccaneer Barley, and Man-o-war Doug. Two community skins joined the fun: Mr. Dragonfruit by Frankyyy for Mr. P, and Bouble Trouble Amber by Artdrei for Amber.

By 2026, the July 2024 update looks like a turning point. It proved Brawl Stars could bring back 2019 without abandoning modern systems. It gave players free rewards, wild game modes, and two months of content. More than anything, it reminded the community why a simple Mega Box opening could still feel exciting years later.
